For the Doc School Nonprofit course, local nonprofit organizations commission advanced Doc School students to produce short films about their cause. In addition to progressing as filmmakers, students learn valuable professional skills such as business communication, contracts, and scheduling. The program builds win-win relationships between youth and adult leaders in the community. Upon delivery of their films, nonprofits pay a fee of $500 directly to Doc School students, which builds self-confidence and encourages entrepreneurship.
Doc School students have worked with a wide range of nonprofit organizations, including the California Federation for the Blind, Shriners Hospital for Children, River City Food Bank, Seniors First, California Musical Theater, Soldiers Project, Center for Land-Based Learning, Placer SPCA, Sacramento County Animal Shelter, and the Sacramento Zoo.
